Spain, co-hosts with The Netherlands for the Women's International Hockey Federation (FIH) Hockey World Cup, opened the competition with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Canada at the Estadi Olimpic de Terrassa.

GLASGOW, Scotland – In their second game of the 4-Nations Tournament taking place at the Uddingston Cricket and Hockey Club in Glasgow, Scotland, the No. 22 U.S. Men’s National Team went up against No. 14 Ireland. A tough battle, USA trailed at the half and saw the Green Machine capitalize on two more chances to defeat the red, white and blue, 3-0.

Deep Grace Ekka knows what a medal in a major international tournament feels like around her neck. The 28-year-old, who has been playing for India for just over a decade, was part of the teams that won the 2017 Asia Cup and the 2016 Asian Champions Trophy. She has also won two Asian Games medals, silver in 2018 and bronze in 2014, two bronze medals at the Asia Cup in 2013 and this year in Muscat and two silvers at the Asian Champions Trophy in 2013 and 2018. To top this all off, she was one of the senior members of the Indian team that missed out on a first Olympic medal by a whisker at Tokyo 2020.

World Cup winner Varinder Singh passes away in Jalandhar

Budding hockey players pay tribute to Olympian Varinder Singh by raising their hockey sticks at cremation ground in his native village Dhannowali in Jalandhar.
“How could someone his age come to train on his scooter covering a distance of 8 km amid this sweltering heat without a break,” fondly remembers Jasdeep Kaur, a national-level hockey player who was being trained by Olympian and recipient of Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement Varinder Singh who breathed his last in Jalandhar this morning. He was 75.

Touted as one of the top-notch right-halfs of the seventies, Varinder Singh’s contribution to Indian hockey’s international success in the seventies is immense. A pall of gloom has descended on Indian hockey over his sad demise following old-age ailments in Jallandhar on Tuesday at the age of 75. According to family sources, Varinder was admitted to a hospital in Jallandhar recently owing to heart issues, where he stayed there for ten days. He returned home and but developed complications and was again admitted to a hospital where he breathed his last on Tuesday. Indian hockey undoubtedly would be poorer with the demise of Varinder.
