Nagaon, Assam: Serene opening marked the 6th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women National Championship 2016 (B division) that got off today here.
The first match between Hockey Gujarat and Assam Hockey saw the later registering a convincing win by 2-4. The second game was a hard fought match between Citizen Hockey XI and Mumbai School Sports Association which ended in a win for the former by a score line of 1-0. The last match of the day between The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd and Hockey Madhya Pradesh ended in a draw with both the teams scoring a goal each.
The Pool B match between Hockey Gujarat and Assam Hockey started with an aggressive approach by the Gujarat team who took the lead in the 20th minute in the first half and maintained the lead till the end of the first half. The second half witnessed the Assam team coming out of their shell and attacking with full strength and soon scoring a goal in the 44th minute. They continued their dominance throughout the second half scoring 3 more goals. The Gujarat team scored a consolation goal in the 60th minute before the match ended with Assam taking the game 2-4.
The second clash of the day between Citizen Hockey XI and Mumbai School Sports Association in Pool A was an example of tight defensive tactics by both the teams. The only goal of the match came in the 37th minute from the stick of Namoni Pariya. The former finally went on to take the game 1-0.
The final game of the day was a neck to neck competition in Pool C between The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd and Hockey Madhya Pradesh. The first half was saw opportunities being created by both the teams. The first team to grab the opportunity was Hockey Madhya Pradesh who converted a penalty corner awarded to them in the 14th minute via Renu Pasi. Mumbai Hockey Association pressed hard and soon got rewarded for their aggression with a field goal from Vaishnavi Rane in the 34th minute. The second half was display of good defence by both the teams and the match ended in 1-1 draw.

U-21 USMNT and Canada to Meet in Test Series
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The U.S. U-21 Men's National Team and Canada's U-21 Team are set to meet in a four-game test series at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. January 14 - 18. This series is the first organized outside competition the team will meet in 2016 which will help them prepare for a jam-packed year as the squad prepares for the Junior Pan American Championship to be held May 21 - 29 in Toronto, Canada.
Admission to all games is free, however, fans are asked to make a donation to the Junior High Performance Program by clicking here.

Registration open for under-18 women’s indoor camp in Toronto

Canada’s Women’s Indoor Program is holding an Under-18 identification camp in Toronto, Ontario on January 30th and 31st and is currently accepting registrations.
National team talent identification and selection is an on-going process and is done through various streams, one of which are open camps such as the one being held in Toronto this month.
The camp will be held at the University of Toronto Athletic Centre and will including testing and training sessions. For more information about the camp, click here.
A National U-18 Indoor Squad of 16-20 athletes will be selected to train prior to playing both exhibition and international matches as a National U-18 Indoor Team (between January and March of 2016).

Hockey kicks off holiday clinic

In a bid to identify and nurture young talent for the better future of the sport, a non-governmental organisation -Hope for Sport - is holding a hockey clinic at Lugogo, in Kampala, Uganda that started last month and ends next month.
Innocent Mbabali, the Hope for Sports founder told New Vision yesterday at Lugogo that the Clinic is in line with the Federation’s manifesto to promote the sport to schools where the future of the sport lies.
“Despite this not being a federation funded project, we are running it in line with the federation’s development plans,” Mbabali stated.
Mbabali explained that the clinic will be held annually at Lugogo hockey ground.
“We have got around 60 children between the age of 5-14 and we conduct these training clinics in different phases; one in the morning and the other in the afternoon for girls only,” Mbabali explained.
He also explained that getting more young children on board will lead to the creation of more clubs playing hockey which also gives national team coaches a big pool to select the national team from.
The over 60 children will at the end form different teams and play a competition before the leave for school.
