Leandro Negre new President of the FIH

Leandro Negre is the new President of the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The Spanish sports administrator was elected during the FIH Congress in Los Angeles, USA on Saturday for a four years term. Negre received more votes that his opponent Els van Breda Vriesman, Netherlands who has been the FIH President since 2001. A total of 89 National Associations were present at the FIH Congress.

NBP hammer Punjab 13-0 in Jr Hockey

KARACHI: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) showed their scoring firepower when they demolished Punjab 13-0 in the National Junior Cup Hockey Tournament here at the Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium on Friday. With their second massive win, NBP have almost made it certain to qualify for the last four round from group A. The forwards trio of Haseem Khan, Rizwan Khan and Yasir Shabbir slammed in three field goals apiece to steal the limelight. Haseem Khan, who blasted six goals against Sindh, again excelled with the stick by scoring in the third, 11th and 15th minutes. Zuhaib Ahmed netted twice while Muhammad Atiq scored by converting a penalty corner. PIA will meet Sindh at 12.30 pm and KESC will take on Balochistan in the second match at 6.30 pm today.

In a junior boys section match, Modern School (Barakhamba Road) defeated Guru Harkrishan Public School (India Gate) 2-0.

FIH Congress and Meetings Week officially opened

The Congress and Meetings week of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in Los Angeles, USA was officially opened on Monday with the Welcome Cocktail of USA FieldHockey and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).

The FIH awarded four people who made an excellent contribution to hockey over the past years. Evlyn Raistrick of Scotland received the Order of Merit out of the hands of FIH President Els van Breda Vriesman and FIH Honorary Secretary General Peter Cohen. Jane Ellis (CAN), Ken Read (AUS) and Peter Wefers-Bettink (NED) received the FIH Diploma of Merit.

The FIH Congress and Meetings week continued on Tuesday. On Friday 28 November 2008, the FIH Forum ‘Moving Hockey Forward’ will take place in Los Angeles. In the evening, the FIH will award the Players of the Year. On Saturday 29 November, the FIH Congress will take place.
