USA victorious in Summer of Hockey opener
The 2026 Women’s Summer of Hockey got underway in Dunedin with the Vantage Black Sticks facing the United States in their first test match since Oceania Cup success, where the team claimed gold and secured qualification for the 2026 FIH World Cup. With USA having won the previous three encounters between the sides, the opening match carried extra edge as the Vantage Black Sticks looked to start the new year strongly on home soil.

Bhubaneswar: The Accord Tamil Nadu Dragons edged past the Ranchi Royals 4-2 in a dramatic shootout at the Men’s Hero Hockey India League (HIL), after a pulsating encounter ended 3-3 at full time. While the Dragons claimed the bonus point for their shootout victory, the Royals did enough to secure second place on the points table, setting up a blockbuster Qualifier 1 clash against the Kalinga Lancers on Friday.

Bhubaneswar: The stage is set for a thrilling encounter in the Men’s Hero Hockey India League (HIL) 2025–26 as Vedanta Kalinga Lancers will take on the Ranchi Royals in Qualifier 1 at the iconic Kalinga Hockey Stadium on 23rd January. In this all-important playoff fixture, scheduled at 1700hrs IST, the top two teams from the league stage will go head-to-head for a direct spot in the tournament Final.

Several coaches, including former internationals Vikram Pillay and Vickram Kanth and N. Muthukumar and M. Gunasekar, have been working with different teams in the ongoing HIL.
