Following a strong start to the season, No. 3 Virginia field hockey faced off against No. 5 Maryland in College Park. Md. Friday evening. The stakes were high as the rival teams met for the first time since the 2023 NCAA Quarterfinals — when the Cavaliers (4-0, 0-0 ACC) crushed the Terrapins (3-2, 0-0 Big 10) 4-0 on Maryland's home field. Virginia was able to come out on top once again in a close game, ending 1-0.

On a night where both sides struggled to create chances, a rebound conveniently led to the game-winning goal.

For the second game in a row, No. 5 Maryland field hockey lost a top-five matchup, 1-0, with today’s loss coming at the hands of No. 3 Virginia.



Smisdom Notches Hat-Trick, #19 Field Hockey Defeats #7 Harvard on the Road

No. 7 Field Hockey Falls in Overtime Thriller Against No. 19 UAlbany



CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In a thrilling back and forth contest, No. 7 Harvard field hockey fell just short against No. 19 UAlbany, as the Great Danes won the match in overtime, 3-2.



Spider Hockey Falls to No. 8 Ohio State



RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond field hockey fell to No. 8 Ohio State, 2-0, Friday afternoon at Crenshaw Field. The loss snaps the Spiders three game win streak and moves to 3-2 on the season.



#13 Field Hockey Soars Past Villanova, 6-2

MERION STATION, Pa. – Manu Ghigliotti and Celeste Smits scored two goals apiece as the 13th-ranked Saint Joseph's field hockey team routed Villanova, 6-2, at Ellen Ryan Field on Friday afternoon.



Field Hockey Falls at #17 Boston College Friday Night



Newton, MA - The University of Maine was defeated by #17 Boston College on Friday night, 4-2.



#20 UMass Lowell Turns Back Field Hockey, 2-0

(September 13, 2024) – Junior Madison Leeper scored twice and sophomore Marie Oliemans made them stand with two second half saves to preserve the shutout and a 2-0 victory for the University of Massachusetts Lowell, ranked No. 20 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll, over Stonehill College in a non-conference field hockey matchup at Cushing Field Complex this evening.

Temple Field Hockey entered Friday afternoon’s game against Penn in desperate need of positive momentum. The Owls got rolled by Virginia on Sept. 6, which was followed up by an overtime heartbreaker to Richmond last weekend. The losses snapped the momentum they had built in the first two games and sent the team into a similar spiral they suffered last season.

Fourth Quarter Burst Leads Nittany Lion Field Hockey Team to Win at Kent State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team (2-3, 0-0 B1G) used a fourth quarter offensive burst to pick up a 4-1 road win at Kent State (0-6) on Friday. Senior Phia Gladieux scored twice in the final period to spark the Nittany Lions to the win.



Hofstra Earns First Win in Shootout Over Sacred Heart



West Haven, CT – The Hofstra field hockey team picked up its first win of the 2024 season in dramatic fashion, defeating Sacred Heart by a final score of 2-1 after winning 3-2 in the shootout from Johnson Field in West Haven, Connecticut.



Minutewomen Take Down The Terriers In Boston



BOSTON, Mass. -- Massachusetts (3-2) scored early and often, claiming a 5-3 victory over Boston University (2-3) on Friday at New Balance Field. The Minutewomen spread the wealth on the scoresheet as five different players scored, powering another strong offensive outing.



Spartans Down Bellarmine 4-2



East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State earned a 4-2 victory on the road at Bellarmine on Friday afternoon.  The Spartans improve to 3-2 on the season, while Bellarmine falls to 2-3 on the year.

Farmville, Va - Luna Prieri scored early and often for Longwood Friday night to top Queens 3-1. The sophomore put the Lancers (2-1) on the board less than two minutes in, and she never stopped. She added two more to complete a hat trick against Queens (0-5).
