The French hosts got off to a stunning start, netting twice in the first seven minutes, and were always in control from that point on, building a 4-0 lead before Luke Madeley pulled one back with 16 minutes left.

With No. 4 Maryland field hockey holding a comfortable lead in the season opener against Drexel, sophomore attacker Hope Rose received the ball off a pass from senior midfielder Nathalie Fiechter. Rose ripped a shot past Drexel’s goalkeeper for her second goal of the day and extended the Terps’ lead to 6-0.

Rachel Houston scored the lone goal of the contest for RU, while goalkeeper Sophia Howard had a career-best 10 saves.

The No. 12 Virginia field hockey team opened up its season with a tough contest on the road at No. 11 Penn State on Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers struck first in the second quarter and then again early in the fourth to build a 2-1 lead. But, the Nittany Lions rallied at the end of the game, scoring two goals in the final ten minutes to steal the win away as Virginia fell to Penn State 3-2 in the season-opener.
