History makers Chile join Argentina on road to World Cup

History was made in Santiago at the Women’s Pan Am Cup as the host nation Chile secured their first ever qualification for the FIH World Cup.

It was a game of important milestones as Argentina beat Canada 3-0 in the first women’s semifinal of the Pan American Cup. The game qualified the Leonas for the 2022 World Cup, while Canada will have to win the bronze medal for their first World Cup appearance since 1994. It was also a celebrated game for Argentina’s Maria Granatto and Agostina Alonso who celebrated their 150th and 100th international caps, respectively.

URUGUAY earned a 5-0 win, by default, over a covid-stricken Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday, in the fifth place match, in the Pan American Cup women's hockey tournament at Santiago, Chile.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia came out fifth in the fifth women's hockey Asia Cup after beating Thailand 3-0 in Muscat, Oman, yesterday.
