India hit 10 past South Africa: France take the game to the Netherlands

The latest matches in the men's International Hockey Federation Pro League had it all as India dominated hosts South Africa, while The Netherlands needed a shoot-out to beat France in Potchchefstroom.

India outclass South Africa in Potchefstroom

South Africa and India met for their first encounter of the 2021-22 FIH Pro League in Potchefstroom today. It was the first encounter between the sides since India’s 5-1 win in the FIH Hockey Series Final in Bhubaneswar in 2019. The Indians were hot favourites on the back of their Olympic bronze medal in Tokyo and a convincing display against France yesterday, while the South Africans were desperate to show more steel in their second taste of the FIH Pro League.

SA men crushed by India in Pro Hockey League

Despite the defeat, the hosts produced a strong performance in the second half with patches of attractive hockey.

Boasting an average of 97 caps per player compared an average of 44 caps for their South African counterparts, India's experience stood them in good stead as they proved too strong for the hosts in an FIH Hockey Pro League clash in Potchefstroom on Wednesday.

Potchefstroom (South Africa): Young drag-flicker Jugraj Singh, playing his second international match, slammed a hat-trick as Olympic bronze medallist India hammered hosts South Africa 10-2 in the FIH Pro Hockey Pro League, on Wednesday.

India Showed South Africa Who Is The Boss

It would have been a tad unjust to consider South Africa as a pushover given their recent international exploits – they had produced the biggest shock of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics when they stunned mighty Germany in a brilliant come-from-behind 4-3 win. The green-and yellow brigade had lapped up a 3-0 lead against another powerhouse Netherlands at the Tokyo Olympics before they made heavy weather of that to go down 3-5. Of course, they were smarting from a 1-11 annihilation at the hands of the Dutch in the maiden Pro Hockey League game and their morale must have been at a low ebb when they squared up against Olympic bronze medallist India, who were teeming with confidence after their emphatic 5-0 win over rapidly-improving France. It is pertinent to point out that the Garreth Ewing-coached South African outfit were a tad depleted in defence with unavailablity of Tokyo Olympics captain Tim Drummond and Matt Guise-Brown for their Pro Hockey League campaign.

Akashdeep Singh Celebrates 200th International Milestone with Superb Tomahawk

Experienced Indian forward Akashdeep Singh achieved a personal milestone when he appeared in his 200th international against France in the Pro Hockey League opener at Potchefstroom, South Africa. The 27-year-old forward, who is employed with Punjab Police, celebrated the occasion scoring a brilliant tomahawk goal in the third quarter.
