After six days of action at the North West University, Ireland and South Africa were the last two standing with an opportunity to win the inaugural FIH Hockey Nations Cup and earn an invite to the FIH Hockey Pro League for 2023/24.

It took a final quarter penalty stroke to separate Ireland and South Africa in a pulsating FIH Hockey Nations Cup final that didn’t go Ireland’s way in Potchefstroom this afternoon. KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia were soundly hammered in the Nations Cup bronze battle, as South Korea sailed away to a 4-0 win at Potchefstroom, South Africa today.

During the 2010 World Cup, the then Foreign Minister of Australia (Stephen Smith) and Human Resources Minister of India (Kapil Sibal), jointly unveiled a trophy called Ajit Pal – Charlesworth Trophy. It was meant to be given to winners of any bilateral series between the two hockey powers. However, we did not hear about it beyond that day. But the Series continued, both teams met often in the last decade. The tradition peaked this month with the 5-Match Series that was completed today at Adelaide.





Plenty of Positives for India Despite the 1-4 Test Series Loss to Australia



Beating Australia in a Test series in their backyard was always going to be a daunting task for any side let alone India – at the end of it, India can take pride from the fact that they were able to win a Test match and avoid a whitewash against the world number one side. The fact that India held their own Australia without their wheels entirely coming off should be enough indication that they are learning their lessons from the 1-7 and 0-7 defeats at the hands of the Kookaburras in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The Men’s Indoor Hockey Team that will represent Australia at the sixth edition of the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup from 5-11 February 2023 in Pretoria, South Africa has been announced.

A glut of goals with Inverleith and Western men unbeaten on the opening day indoors

In the opening round of matches in the Scottish Men’s Indoor National league 1 Grove Menzieshill showed their intent on the title with the inclusion of some old favourites: Ross McPherson, Olly James, Gavin Byers and Gavin Tomlinson, and an even older management of Bruce Cuthill in the coaching role, and Billy McPherson as manager… and they opened with a 9-2 win over Grange.
