Ahead of the FIH Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela, we speak to members of the participating teams. In this interview, Thierry Brinkman of Netherlands talking about his country's 25-year wait for a gold medal at the Men's World Cup, says: "25 years is a lot of time to have gone without winning the World Cup. There are some really good teams out there, so it going to be difficult. But our aim is to be the World Champions, so we are going to do our best and really go for it!"





Germany captain Mats Grambusch: "Aim is to add another medal to our past successes"

In this interview, Mats Grambusch of Germany, talking about his country's 8 past medals at the Men's World Cups, says: "We have a good youth setup in Germany so I am excited for our younger players to play in their first World Cup and our aim is to add to our great history in the World Cups where we have won two gold medals, two silver medals and four bronze medals!"





Bold team selections underline India's ambition to end 47-year wait

The inclusions of Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Vivek Sagar Prasad and local boy Nilam Sanjeep Xess show how India are not afraid to take gambles as they look to win their first Hockey World Cup medal since 1975.



When India hosts the Men's Hockey World Cup from January 13- in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, the expectation will be to end a 47-year wait for a medal.

The FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 trophy made its way back to Odisha on Sunday after a successful nationwide tour. The trophy tour kicked off on December 5 with the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik presenting the trophy to Hockey India President, Dr. Dilip Tirkey in Bhubaneswar.

Bhubaneshwar: It was nothing short of a massive celebration as the Men's Hockey World Cup trophy arrived in host city Bhubaneswar after touring different states.

With the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 starting from January 13, 2023, all the match tickets in Rourkela have been sold out within a week.

As the clock nears the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023, the excitement and enthusiasm among hockey fans around the world have already reached beyond its peak. The tournament, which is set to begin on January 13, 2023, will see 16 elite hockey teams from around the world in action.

Being the joint-proposers of the concept of World Cup for hockey, India and Pakistan got priority to host it; Pakistan the first India the third, The Netherlands for the intervening one. However, both India and Pakistan could not hold on to their own successful bids: Political situation in Pakistan saw the Cup moving from Lahore to Madrid while intense internal squabble in India led Malaysia rescue the third (Kuala Lumpur 1975). Interestingly, the then superpowers India and Pakistan, despite the venue woes, won the Cup collectively twice out of three.
