KUALA LUMPUR: National men's hockey coach Brendon Carolan admitted his charges still need to tidy up their game despite opening their Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games campaign with an emphatic 7-0 victory over Uzbekistan in Group B today.

Deepika scored eight goals in the match while Ishika Chaudhary scored a hat-trick. India will face Indonesia next on Monday.

The Indian women's hockey team brushed aside Uzbekistan by an impressive 19-0 scoreline to start its Asian Games 2026 campaign in Pool B at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium on Sunday.

In the two sides’ first-ever meeting, India came close to recording its biggest margin of victory at the Asiad as Deepika Kumari (eight goals), Lalremsiami, Ishika (three goals), Baljeet Kaur, Neha, Navneet Kaur (two), Lalthantluangi (two) and Sakshi Rana all found the net.

The recent 16th edition of the Hockey World Cup, jointly hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands from ended with Germany lifting the trophy for a fourth time, drawing level with Pakistan as the only two nations to have won the title in consecutive editions - Germany this time around, Pakistan having achieved the feat in 1978 and 1982.
