Bhubaneswar: As the defending Champions Belgium arrived in Odisha for the FIH Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela on Friday, there was a definite buzz at the Biju Patnaik International Airport with a large gathering of fans to welcome some of the biggest stars in world hockey. Belgium are placed in Pool B along with Germany, Japan and Korea, and will begin their campaign on January 14th against Korea in Bhubaneswar.

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the upcoming FIH men’s hockey World Cup, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced that each player of the Indian team will get Rs 1 crore if the hosts win the World Cup. Patnaik also inaugurated the World Cup Village at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela. “Each player will be rewarded with Rs 1 crore, if our country wins the World Cup,” Patnaik said.

From being an in-and-out player to becoming the vice-captain of the Indian hockey team, Amit Rohidas has quietly risen up the ranks with some outstanding performances in recent years.

The top hockey-playing nations from around the globe will be featured in the 2023 Hockey World Cup to be held in the Indian cities of Bhubaneswar and Rourkela later this month. But record four-time World Cup champions Pakistan won’t be part of the 16-team field.





‘All bases covered’: Rourkela ready for the FIH World Cup

The city boasts of a Games Village where hockey players will be accommodated in approximately 225 rooms for the FIH World Cup. The village will cater to “every need of a professional athlete.”

The people of Rourkela are all set to be enthralled as the FIH World Cup comes to their city. The city now boasts of a Games Village where athletes will be accommodated in approximately 225 rooms for the marquee event.
