Germany and Netherlands are semi-finalists at the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 earning wins against England and Korea in their respective quarterfinals. In the semi-finals, Australia will face Germany, while Belgium will take on Netherlands, on 27 January, in the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

England blew a late lead in the quarter-finals of the Men's International Hockey Federation (FIH) Hockey World Cup in India, eventually losing a shootout to Germany at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

BHUBANESWAR (INDIA): Germany fought back from the brink of defeat to score two goals in the final three minutes to hold England 2-2 before prevailing 4-3 in a Hockey World Cup quarter-final shootout at the Kalinga Stadium today.

England was just three minutes away from entering their fourth straight semifinal, riding on the goal apiece struck by Zachery Wallace (12th min) and Liam Ansell (33rd min). England were the semifinalist since 2010, though their fortunes never moved beyond.

Captain Mats Grambusch and his younger brother Tom scored in the space of one minute after England was ahead 2-0 till the 58th minute as Germany snatched a win from the jaws of defeat in an edge-of-the-seat quarterfinal match.

Forty seconds was all it took for Germany to score twice and first equal, then knock out England from the World Cup on Wednesday in shootouts, reiterating its credentials as one of the most dangerous teams in world hockey and making its first semifinal since finishing runner-up in 2010.

Bhubaneswar — England captain David Ames said the manner of their World Cup defeat to Germany will “hurt and sting for a long time” after a draining 4-3 shoot-out loss, while coach Paul Revington admitted that he will work on giving his side a killer instinct touch.

Cape Town: The Indian Women's Hockey Team are scheduled to play two more friendlies with the Netherlands, currently ranked no.1 in the FIH World rankings. In their ongoing tour of South Africa, India won three matches against the home team and drew a match in their four-match Series against the hosts while they lost 1-3 to Netherlands in their first friendly tie held on 23rd January.
