NZ women claim shoot-out win over Germany, Dutch men continue title quest



The final day of the Amsterdam mini-tournament brought with it the 500th FIH Hockey Pro League match as New Zealand’s women took on Germany. Despite Germany’s dominance throughout, it was the Black Sticks who eventually prevailed 3-1 in a shoot-out after the match ended goalless, so keeping alive their hopes of avoiding relegation. Later in the day, the already relegated Black Sticks men couldn’t prevent the Netherlands from continuing their quest for FIH Hockey Pro League honours. The Dutch claimed a comfortable 4-1 victory to take a step closer to overtaking Great Britain at the top of the standings, with two matches remaining. Both Spain and Belgium also remain in the running for the men’s title, making for a thrilling final mini-tournament in Antwerp, starting on Friday.

There were contrasting fortunes for the Black Sticks hockey teams as their Pro League season came to an end.





FIH Hockey Pro League 2022-23: New Zealand ended campaign

New Zealand men's and women's hockey teams finished all of their matches in the FIH Hockey Pro League 2022-23.

New Zealand men's hockey team played 16 matches, won - nil, lost 14, drawn 3 (in shootout won 1 + lost 1). Points earned 3. Goals scored 26, Goals scored against 60. Goal Difference - 34. Secured the bottom place in the points table.

3 points for each win
2 points for each win in the shootout
1 point for each lost in the shootout

The final set of mini-tournament matches in this season’s FIH Pro League 2022/23 season will begin on Friday with title hopes and relegations battles still in the offing.

The 10th annual USA Junior Premier Outdoor League (JPOL) came to a close on Sunday, June 11 with the crowning of the champions in Region 5, 6 and 7, as well as the U-14 Combined and JPOL Elite. The Region 4 and 8 Championships were crowned the previous weekend on June 3 and 4.

Two new appointments for Hockey Ireland

Hockey Ireland is delighted to have recently appointed 2 new Development Staff in Munster and Connacht.



David Granero Fuertes brings a wealth of experience from club development from his role in Valencia Hockey Club as club coordinator. In this role David implemented a successful development programme in local schools while also enhancing the quality of existing players via a players development programme. David brought these skills to Connacht when he moved to Galway and has coached in Galway Hockey Club as well as Salerno School. David will work 3-days a week in the region.
