Mixed fortunes for Kenya on third day of Africa Cup of Nations hockey

It was a day of mixed fortunes for Kenya’s men and women, who were involved in the only two fixtures contested on the third day of hockey’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ghana.





South Africa seal top spot of Pool A in Kenya victory

With both South Africa and Kenya having already qualified from Pool A for the Semi-Finals following respective victories against Namibia. The two sides have played some classic matches over the years, none more than the 2-1 victory for South Africa at the 2015 Greenfields African Championships. Both teams were keen to secure top spot and the favourable draw in the Semi-Finals. For South Africa the match marked goalkeepers 50th cap for the country.

Hockey Cranes coach Vincent Kasasa has admitted that this year's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations is a learning process for both the players and the technical team.

"I’m using this year’s Hockey Africa Cup of Nations as a learning process to enable my players to know how they are supposed to team up while in such competitions. We need to show character and determination while in top competitions like this,” stated Kasasa.

SANTIAGO, Chile – To start their 2022 Pan American Cup campaign, the No. 15 U.S. Women’s National Team took on No. 45 Trinidad and Tobago in Pool B at the Prince of Wales Country Club in Santiago, Chile. USA jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as three different athletes tallied hat tricks on their way to a 16-0 win.

Tokyo Olympics’ hat-trick star Vandana Katariya is the most capped player in the forthcoming Asia Cup, all set to start in two days’ time in Muscat, Oman.  With 249 caps to her credit, flamboyant forward Vandana sports 38 international caps more than the next senior most player in Muscat, colleague Deep Grace Ekka. In fact, only three players with 200 plus caps will be seen in action at the 10th Asia Cup, which is Asia’s World Cup qualifier too.
