Spain and India qualify for semifinals as Ireland and Chile register important victories



Spain and India continued their hot starts in the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup Spain 2022, making it two wins out of two, with Spain registering a comfortable 3-0 win over Korea, and India pulling out a close 2-1 win over Japan.





Ireland bounce back with commanding win in Nations Cup



Ireland women turned disappointment to delight as they held out for a 2-1 victory against Italy in their second pool match in the Women’s FIH Hockey Nations Cup in Valencia this morning. Having suffered defeat to Spain in their opening match, a blistering third quarter of sustained pressure paid dividends for Sean Dancer’s charges today with goals from Naomi Carroll and Katie Mullan putting the girls in green two goals to the good after a cagey first half.

Indian Women Have One Foot in Semifinal



The Indian women’s hockey team put one foot in the semifinal door of the inaugural FIH Nations Cup prevailing over Japan 2-0 at Estadio Betero in Valencia. Much like their tournament opener the Indian eves churned out an early go-ahead goal against Japan when Salam Tete darted down the left and rifled in a powerful shot that breached the defences of Japanese goalkeeper Eika Nakamura.

The Indian hockey team continued its winning run in the Women's FIH Nations Cup 2022 with a 2-1 victory over Asian champions Japan in its second match of Pool B in Valencia, Spain on Monday.

Chile snatch last gasp win over South Africa

South Africa and Chile met in a rematch of their 2022 FIH Hockey World Cup encounter earlier this year with both looking to get their opening victory of the FIH Hockey Nations Cup.

NAMIBIA's women's hockey team have virtually secured qualification for the 2024 Hockey 5s World Cup after winning their opening two matches at the Afcon qualifiers in Ismailia, Egypt over the weekend.

Former captain Zafar Iqbal feels it won't be easy for India to reclaim the World Cup title after a hiatus of 47 years as the hosts are placed in a tough pool alongside Spain, England and Wales. Zafar said it would be a great achievement after the Tokyo Olympics bronze if the hosts manage to finish on the podium at the January 13-29 event.
