Argentina and India register big wins to finish their World Cup campaigns in the 9th position



The final day of classification matches of the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 were played in the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela as Argentina and India registered wins to end their campaigns in the 9th position, while Malaysia and France finished on wins as well, ending their campaigns in the 13th position. Losses for Wales and South Africa, saw them finish 11th, while Japan and Wales ended their campaigns in 15th place.





Shahmie scores winner to put Malaysia in joint 13th at World Cup

ROURKELA: Shahmie Irfan Suhaimi, 20, scored the winner in a tense 3-2 battle against Japan today to help Malaysia finish joint 13th at the Hockey World Cup at the Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela, India.

Argentina produced a thumping 6-0 win over Wales as both nations ended their World Cup campaigns in Rourkela, India.

Goals were scored by Abhishek (5'), Harmanpreet Singh (12'), Shamsher Singh (45'), Akashdeep Singh (49') and Shamsher Singh (59')  



Rourkela Indian Men's Hockey Team beat South Africa 5-2 in their 9th to 12th placing match in the FIH Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela. Playing in front of a packed audience in the stellar Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium on Saturday, India ensured an entertaining brand of hockey for the passionate crowds of Rourkela who beelined to the newly-built stadium for the last day's proceedings in this stadium before the action moves to Bhubaneswar for the grand finale of the tournament on 29th January.





India finishes ninth after 5-2 win against South Africa

As the teams lined up for the national anthems, forward Mandeep Singh received a loud ovation from the Rourkela faithful here on Saturday at the Birsa Munda International Stadium on the landmark of his 200 th game in national colours. But it was another young Indian forward, Abhishek, who produced moments of brilliance to lead India to a 5-2 win over South Africa in the World Cup classification match.





India defeat South Africa 5-2 to finish joint ninth with Argentina

World number six India earned six penalty corners in the match and scored one from them while South Africa, ranked 14th, got three PCs without converting any one of them. India had 31 circle penetrations in total while South Africa had 22.


India, who led 2-0 at half time, had 15 circle penetration as against eight by South Africa at the breather. Twitter @TheHockeyIndia
