Indian men bounce back against Belgium, GB women hold on versus China



India’s men turned the tables on Belgium in their FIH Hockey Pro League encounter in London, despite the Olympic champions bringing several of their more established stars back into the fold. The Indians rallied from defeat at the hand of the Belgians last weekend to claim an emphatic 5-1 victory this time around. China’s women produced a thrilling ending to their match against Great Britain, scoring two goals in the final 11 minutes, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the home side from claiming the win.

Great Britain Women’s Team defeated China 4-3 in their third match of the FIH Hockey Pro League London mini tournament held on Friday at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

In a remarkable turnaround, the Indian men's hockey team bounced back from consecutive defeats in the European leg of the FIH Pro League, stunning the reigning Olympic champions Belgium with a resounding 5-1 victory on Friday.

Thirteen years ago last month, Lizzie Watkins was playing in an Australian premier state match for North Coast Raiders at Curtin University alongside her sister, Catherine. Midway through the match a ball deflected off Lizzie’s stick and hit her in the head. Catherine attempted CPR on her 24-year-old sister before she was rushed to hospital. Tragically, she died that night.
