Netherlands men oust error-strewn Belgium to reach final

Monchengladbach — The two best men’s sides in the world on rankings. Two sides who had conquered the last two Euros. This heavyweight match was nervy, edgy and settled by rare Belgium errors as world No 1 Netherlands reached their fourth EuroHockey final in five editions.

The Netherlands produced an outstanding second half performance to outdo Belgium 3-2 and advance to the final of the men’s EuroHockey Championship in Mönchengladbach.

Monchengladbach — With Paul Revington’s side down to 10 in the closing stages and a 9,000 home support baying Germany for yet another story of late heartbreak and toil, the roles were reversed in dramatic, joyous scenes as James Mazarelo stood tall and put England men into their first major final for 14 years on Friday night.

Oman: The Indian Women’s Hockey Team started their campaign at the Women’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier with a 7-2 win against Malaysia on Friday. For India, Navjot Kaur (3’, 28’), Akshata Dhekale (4’), Mariana Kujur (17’), Monika Dipi Toppo (12’, 20’), and Mahima Choudhary (28’) were on target. For Malaysia, Wan Wan (7’) and Aziz Zafirah (11’) were on target.

Margot Lawn faced her teammates as she readied to take a penalty corner. Lawn quickly swept the ball across the circle to Nathalie Fiechter, who tapped it to Sammy Popper. The transfer from Princeton then drove the ball into the back of the cage — giving No. 3 Maryland field hockey a lead just over two minutes into the 2023 season.
