Double dutch victories as women blank Leonas, men overcome thriller ending



The Dutch women will leave Argentina undefeated as they closed out their tour with a 2-0 victory over the Leonas. A Freek Moes one-timer and a Yibbi Jansen penalty stroke were the difference despite a solid defensive performance from the Leonas.

India are the champions of the inaugural FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup Spain 2022, narrowly defeating hosts Spain in front of an electric crowd in the finals at Valencia, Spain!

Indian women led ably by ebullient goalkeeper Savita Punia won the inaugural FIH Hockey Nations Cup 2022, hanging on to an early goal. Gurjit Kaur struck the solitary goal of the grand finale in the 6th minute and then the defence led by veteran Deep Grace Ekka stood to ground not allowing hardworking and pushing home side any leeway. Earlier, India overcame stiff contest against Ireland in the semis in a tense shoot out.

The Indian women’s hockey team ‘reserved their best for the final’ pulling out all stops to nail out a fighting solitary goal win over hosts Spain at Estadio Betero in Valencia, to not just win the inaugural Women’s Nations Cup as well as secure a promotion to the 2023-24 Women Pro League. The Janneke Schopman-coached Indian hockey eves, who exuded a lot of gaps in their play in the pool phase despite winning all their pool games, came out really pumped up at the business end of the tournament.

The Indian hockey team beat Spain 1-0 in the Women's FIH Nations Cup 2022 final on Saturday and earned themselves a place in the 2023-24 FIH Pro League.

Dragflicker Gurjit Kaur scored the all-important goal in the sixth minute, converting a penalty, and goalkeeper Savita Punia and the rest of the Indian defence successfully fended off multiple challenges from the Spaniards to preserve their lead.

Valencia: India clinched the inaugural FIH Women’s Nation’s Cup title with a 1-0 win over Spain in the summit clash in Valencia on Saturday.





Japan late strike consigns Ireland to fourth place in Nations Cup



After going in front twice, Ireland lost to Japan by the odd goal in five to finish in fourth position at the Women’s FIH Hockey Nations Cup this afternoon. Sean Dancer’s young side played an attractive brand of hockey all week, going toe-to-toe with some of the best sides in the world, but Japan’s cutting edge in front of goal made the difference in the end.





Chile consign South Africans to defeat

South Africa and Chile played in the unwanted seventh place playoff in Spain at the inaugural FIH Hockey Nations Cup. The two sides had played off in the pool stage with Chile emerging victorious 2-1.

Run of draws continues in Cape Town
