GB a point behind leaders India with 3 games in hand

By Patrick Rowley

Great Britain's men took a big step towards winning the PRO World League for the first time with a hard-earned 3-0 win over Olympic champions Germany at the Olympic Hockey Centre in London.

They are now just a point behind India who have completed their fixtures and have three games still to play.

Britain got off to a great start forcing a penalty stroke which was superbly put away by Nicholas Bandurak.

There were chances at both ends with the agile German goalkeeper frequently denying GB.

It was not until eight minutes from time that David Goodfield scored GB's second, with a rasping follow-up corner shot.

The Germans then took off their goalkeeper and Sam Ward took advantage to convert a last minute penalty corner.

Ward (10) and Bandurak (8) are now the second and third highest scorers in the event.

Today (Sunday) GB men play Spain and GB women, the USA.
