New Delhi: As the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2023 ignites anticipation, the Indian Junior Women's Hockey Team gears up for a thrilling opener against Canada on the 29th November in Santiago, Chile. Eager to make their mark after securing a commendable 4th place in the 2022 edition, India stands poised to commence their journey in Pool C, a challenging group that includes 2022 runners-up Germany, Belgium, and their first opponents, Canada.

Having made history by winning its first Asia Cup title earlier this year, the Indian women’s junior hockey team has set its sights on conquering the world.





Indian women hockey have a chequered journey at Junior World Cup



In 1989, the Indian Women Hockey Federation organized Junior Asia Cup in Delhi with a prime motive of qualifying for the year’s and the first-ever Junior World Cup. Having lost the semifinal, it failed to achieve the motive. It took another 12 years for it to qualify. India for the first time took part in the Junior World Cup in 2001 when the field was expanded to 16 from hitherto 12.





India at FIH Women's Junior World Cup: A Brief History

Reserved for players below 21 years old, the Netherlands is the most successful team in the tournament. The peak of India's performance was in the 2013 edition, where they won a bronze medal.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has been a good hunting ground for the German hockey team.And Germany hopes to land their seventh Junior World Cup (JWC) crown when the tournament starts at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Dec 5.

Rohan Bhuhi set to become first Asian to play for GB Hockey for 23 years

Rohan Bhuhi is set to become the first Sikh to play for Great Britain men for nearly 24 years after he was called up for next week’s FIH Pro League season opener in Argentina.





Four German Hockey Players Nominated for the Most Valuable Individual Award in Hockey

Once a year, the world association FIH (International Hockey Federation) presents the “FIH Hockey Star Awards” to the best female hockey player, the best female goalkeeper and the best goalkeeper in the world. German national hockey players were nominated in all four categories. Julia Sonntag (national goalkeeper), Sonja Zimmermann (national team captain), Jean-Paul Danneberg (national goalkeeper) and Niklas Wellen (national player) made it into the last five in their category. On December 19, 2023, the FIH will announce the world goalkeeper and player of the year. Fans can still vote for their players of the year until December 11, 2023 and help the German national players win the most valuable individual award in hockey.





Hockey Punjab lifts 13th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2023 trophy



Chennai: Hockey Punjab claimed the Gold medal after their penalty shootout triumph over defending Champions Hockey Haryana in the Final of the 13th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2023 today at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium, Chennai. Meanwhile, the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu overcame Hockey Karnataka in penalty shootouts to claim the Bronze Medal.

Steering the victorious team, Hockey Punjab, Harmanpreet expressed profound praise for the tournament's high standards following their well-fought shootout victory against Hockey Haryana in the title-deciding clash, which came after the game was tied at 2-2 (9-8 SO) at the end of regulation time.

With his fourteenth and fifteenth competition goals of this season, Sam Lane (26) was again of great value for the Oranje-Rood on Sunday. Partly thanks to the top form of the New Zealand striker, the Eindhoven team won 3-2 against Den Bosch and started the long hibernation as leaders in the Tulp Hoofdklasse.
